How to Correct Your Birthday on Instagram
Find your Instagram birthday in Meta Accounts Center, correct an error, and understand when age verification or a change limit may apply.
If the birth date saved to your Instagram account is wrong, look for the Birthday setting in Meta's Accounts Center and enter your real date of birth. On many current app versions, the route starts at your profile, continues through the menu to Accounts Center, then Personal details and Birthday. Follow the labels your signed-in account actually shows; the screen may look different across phones, app versions, and connected accounts.
A birthday correction may be subject to a change limit or an age-verification request. That is especially relevant when a new date would move an account from a teen age to an adult age. Meta says it uses age information to provide different experiences and safety protections. Changing the date to evade a restriction can therefore create an account problem rather than solve the underlying issue. This guide is for correcting an error, not changing your age for eligibility.
Check the account and date before editing
Make sure you are signed in to the Instagram account whose birthday needs correction. People with more than one Instagram account can easily open the wrong profile. Check the username at the top of the profile and then open the settings from that account. If Facebook and Instagram are in the same Accounts Center, check which profiles are connected before saving a date.
Meta's Accounts Center help explains that it manages settings across connected Meta accounts. Its Facebook birthday help says the birthday should match across accounts in the same Accounts Center and that edits may be limited. Do not assume a change is isolated to one profile when the interface tells you connected accounts share that information. Review the confirmation screen for the accounts affected.
If the date is correct and you are trying to change who can see a birthday-related detail, that is a different setting. Changing the date of birth to hide a birthday is the wrong action. Look for the relevant visibility or profile setting instead. Your account's stored birth date also serves age-related functions that are separate from a public profile choice.
Find and correct the birthday
- Open the Instagram app and sign in to the account you want to correct.
- Go to your profile and open its menu. Find Accounts Center. If the menu is arranged differently, use the settings search or the current Instagram Help Center rather than guessing at an older screenshot.
- Open Personal details, then Birthday or the equivalent date-of-birth field. Check the date currently displayed and any connected-account message.
- If Edit is available, enter your actual birth date. Review the day, month, and year carefully; date order can differ by locale.
- Read any confirmation or verification request before you save. If the change is accepted, reopen the Birthday area to check the stored date.
Those are navigation cues, not a guarantee that every account can edit the field directly. The app may tell you that you have changed it too often, need to wait, or need to verify your age. Use the route and instructions Instagram gives you for your own account. Do not submit somebody else's identity document or use an unrelated website that promises to bypass the check.
Why Instagram may ask you to verify your age
Meta has published age-verification guidance for cases in which someone attempts to change a birth date from under 18 to 18 or older. Its 2026 age-assurance update says it may require an ID or facial age-estimation option to complete a suspected teen-to-adult change. The methods and prompts offered to you depend on the applicable account and location. Follow the in-app request rather than treating a past announcement's full test menu as a permanent list of worldwide choices.
An age check is not evidence that Instagram thinks you lied. It is a control applied to a sensitive change. Read what information the verification screen requests and Meta's explanation before proceeding. If the prompt does not match your situation or fails, use the help or appeal route shown in the app. A third party cannot make a legitimate verification requirement disappear by taking your password or fee.
Instagram's age rules matter even when a mistaken date appears only a year or two away from the truth. Meta says people generally must be at least 13 to sign up, and some countries set a higher minimum. Its Teen Accounts announcement describes built-in protections for teens, with additional limits on loosening them for younger teens. A correction can change how the account is treated, so enter the real date and allow the official process to decide what applies.
If Birthday is missing or the edit fails
First confirm that you have the correct Instagram account open and that the app is current. Then search Accounts Center for Personal details or Birthday. An account managed through a linked Facebook profile can show a shared date; read the connected-account notice before assuming a missing Instagram-only edit control is a bug. The exact placement of the field is not guaranteed across desktop, mobile web, and app versions.
If the app displays a change limit, do not keep resubmitting different dates. Record the exact message and any date on which another request becomes available. Meta's birthday help says there is a limit to how often a birthday can be changed. It does not establish a single waiting period for every Instagram account, so avoid relying on a third-party claim of a universal number of days.
If verification is requested, complete only the official flow available from the signed-in app or Meta Help Center. If you cannot access your account, start with Instagram's account-access help rather than trying to edit a profile field from a new account. If an error persists, capture the exact error text, app version, and affected username for an in-app problem report. Do not share a copy of an ID, password, or login code with someone who approaches you in a message offering to “fix” the birthday.
Quick answers
Can I change my age instead of my birthday? Instagram derives age from the stored birth date. Correct the date itself to your real date; there is no separate public “age” field that should be falsified to unlock a feature.
Will changing the date automatically remove Teen Account limits? Do not assume so. Meta may require age verification, and the applicable protections depend on the verified age, location, and account state. Follow the account's on-screen instructions.
Why does Facebook show the same birthday? Accounts connected through Meta's Accounts Center may share a date of birth. Check the linked profiles and read the confirmation before editing.
What if I cannot save the correct date? Read the exact error or verification prompt, then use Meta's in-app help route. Repeatedly entering other dates or using a third-party workaround can make the situation harder to resolve.
