How to Delete a Second Facebook Account, Extra Profile, or Page
Identify whether the extra Facebook presence is a separate account, additional profile, or Page before choosing the correct deletion path.
Before deleting anything, identify what the “second account” is: a separate sign-in, an additional profile under one account, or a Page you manage. They can look similar in the profile switcher, but the deletion scopes differ. Note its name and URL, and check whether switching to it requires a new sign-in. Confirm only when Meta's final screen names the intended item. Meta explains additional profiles and parent-account deletion.
First, work out which one you have
Separate Facebook account: You use a separate sign-in to open it. A second saved login on a phone may be another account, rather than a profile under your usual account. Sign into the one you intend to close. Accounts Center can hold connected accounts, so check the selected name and linked experiences before confirming. Meta describes Accounts Center.
Additional Facebook profile: You switch between personal profiles without signing in again. Meta says they sit under a main account but can be managed individually. Deleting the account also affects every profile under it. Select the extra profile by name when you mean to remove only that profile. Meta's profile announcement; account-versus-profile guidance.
Facebook Page: A Page has its own access settings and is not a second personal account. Meta says only people with Facebook access and full control can delete it. Check Page setup → Page access while switched into the Page. Business-portfolio arrangements may differ. Meta's Page-access guide and steps.
If unsure, stop at identification. Removing a saved login from your phone does not request account deletion.
Prepare before removing a separate account
Sign into the account to delete. Check its name, contact details, and Pages or groups it manages. If a Page must continue, confirm that another trusted person has full control; the ability to post does not establish that access. Meta's Page-access guide.
Save what you need while you have access. Meta recommends downloading photos and posts before deletion. Check Your information and permissions in Accounts Center or the Facebook settings available to you, and verify the export; it does not transfer content to another account. Arrange another sign-in for sites using Log in with Facebook. Meta says account deletion ends that login and affects Messenger and possibly Meta Quest. Meta's deletion guide; information tools.
Meta does not offer a general merge of two personal accounts. Do not expect friends, messages, or posts to combine automatically. Meta's account-merge guidance explains the limit.
Delete the separate Facebook account
While signed into the account to close, Meta's current desktop instructions are Settings & privacy → Settings → Accounts Center → Personal details → Account ownership and control → Deactivation or deletion. Select the account you intend to delete, choose Delete account, then read and follow the confirmation screens. Meta also documents an alternative under Your Facebook information → Deactivation and deletion for accounts that cannot use the Accounts Center path. Menu positions can vary by device and account. Meta's account-deletion instructions.
If the selected item is your usual account, back out. Deleting it also affects its additional profiles. Deactivation is a reversible break, though sent messages may remain visible and Messenger may continue working. Meta compares the choices.
Delete only an additional profile
Sign into the parent Facebook account, open Settings & privacy → Settings → Accounts Center → Personal details → Account ownership and control → Deactivation or deletion, and select the additional profile by its displayed name. If Meta offers Delete additional Facebook profile, follow that profile-specific flow; choose Deactivate if you want a temporary break instead. The exact labels and available controls may vary. Most importantly, pause if the confirmation says it will delete the Facebook account and all profiles: that is a different scope. Meta's account-deletion screen distinguishes “account or profile”, and its comparison page points to individual-profile management.
Before confirming, save needed profile content and check its group or Page responsibilities. Read the profile-specific warning; its full effects were not verified in a signed-in account for this draft.
If it is a Page, use Page controls
Switch into the Page, verify your own Page access and whether you have full control, then use the Page's current settings to find its deactivation or deletion choice. Page deletion is a different operation from personal-account deletion. If all you want is a temporary pause, consider the Page's deactivation or unpublishing options if the Page offers them. If you do not have full control, ask a person who does; do not delete a personal account to solve a Page-permission problem. Meta explains Page access and deletion authority.
The exact Page deletion menus and cancellation window were not verified in a signed-in account. Read its confirmation and coordinate with other Page managers before permanent action.
Can you cancel a deletion request?
For a Facebook account, Meta says you may cancel by signing back in and choosing Cancel deletion during the available period. Its general Help text describes 30 days but says the period varies by region. Follow your account's displayed deadline; do not apply it to a profile or Page without checking. Once deletion completes, recovery may be impossible. Sent messages may remain in recipients' inboxes and some records may be retained. Meta's cancellation and retention guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Will deleting my second account leave my main one untouched?
Do not assume so. If they truly are separately signed-in accounts, select and confirm the one you mean to close. If the “second” item is an additional profile, deleting its parent account affects all its profiles. If it is a Page, personal-account deletion may affect access and other connected experiences. Review the named item and consequences on Meta's final screen. Meta's account/profile distinction.
Can I keep the extra presence but take a break?
Meta offers deactivation for accounts and individual additional profiles. A Page may offer a Page-specific pause. Deactivation retains a way back, subject to account access and the feature's current rules; it is not the same as deletion or uninstalling an app. Check what remains visible, including previously sent messages. Meta's comparison.
What if I cannot sign into the account I want deleted?
The ordinary deletion steps require access to the intended account. Use Meta's own recovery route to regain access first. Avoid anyone who asks for your password or verification code to “delete it for you.” If the item is a Page, check who has full control instead. This article does not establish a way to delete another person's account or bypass its access checks.
