How to Delete a TikTok Story

Open your TikTok Story and swipe up to Delete, or use Share then Delete. See how to identify the right Story and what deletion cannot undo.

To delete a TikTok Story you posted, open your Story in the TikTok app, swipe up, tap Delete, and confirm Delete again. TikTok also documents a second path: while viewing your Story, tap Share at the bottom, then Delete. Both paths are in TikTok's Story Help. Use the one your current app shows.

Open the Story you want to remove

In the TikTok app, tap your profile photo at the top of your Following feed, inbox or profile, where TikTok says your Story can be opened. If you have more than one Story item, move to the exact photo or video you intend to delete before selecting a control. A regular video post on your profile has a different removal task; the steps here are for a Story.

Watch the item once before confirming. This is especially useful if you uploaded several similar clips or posted from the wrong account. If the Story is no longer visible, check that you are signed into the account that posted it. TikTok describes Stories as temporary posts shared for 24 hours, so it may also have expired. A missing Story is not proof that you deleted it yourself.

Delete by swiping up

  1. Open your Story.
  2. Swipe up on that Story.
  3. Select Delete.
  4. Select Delete again to confirm.

Those are the steps in TikTok's current Help page. TikTok also uses the swipe-up panel to show Story viewers, so check the action label before tapping. Do not assume the control is always a three-dot icon in the same position on every phone.

Use Share if you do not see the swipe-up option

TikTok's alternative is to tap Share at the bottom of your own Story and then Delete. In this context, Share opens actions for the Story; selecting Delete is still a deliberate removal action. If neither route appears, check that you opened your own Story, that the app is current, and that you are not looking at an ordinary post or somebody else's Story. Follow the controls on the current screen rather than an old screenshot.

Deleting the Story removes it from its normal viewing surface. It does not take back a screenshot, recording or copy someone else already made while it was visible. If the concern is a sensitive detail, remove the Story promptly and review what you share next time. TikTok offers separate audience settings for posts; changing an audience is a different choice from deleting the item.

The old instruction that every TikTok Story video is limited to 15 seconds is not needed to remove a Story and is not stated in the current TikTok Story Help. The deletion steps apply to your Story photo or video as shown in the app.
