How to Recover a Deleted Facebook Account
If you requested Facebook account deletion, sign in during the cancellation window and choose Cancel deletion.

If you requested deletion of your Facebook account, first find out whether the request is still pending. Meta lets you cancel a pending deletion during an account-specific window. After the account has been permanently deleted, Meta says it cannot be reactivated. A temporary deactivation is a different choice and can be reversed.
If deletion is still pending
Try signing in to the Facebook account that you asked to delete. If Meta offers Cancel deletion, select it and follow the confirmation shown. Meta’s account-deletion help gives these two steps: log in within the available window, then click Cancel deletion. Do not assume that opening the app or logging in by itself completed the cancellation. Check the final account state after you follow the prompt.
Meta’s help page describes a 30-day cancellation period and adds that the number of days varies by region. Treat the deadline displayed for your own account as the one to follow. If you cannot sign in, use Facebook’s account recovery options promptly; this guide cannot extend the cancellation window or guarantee access to an account.
What if the cancellation window has passed?
Meta says a permanently deleted account cannot be reactivated and content added to that account cannot be retrieved. The platform may take longer to finish deleting copies in its systems, but that processing period is not an extra recovery window. Messages you previously sent may remain visible in other people’s inboxes. Check the current Meta help page for the limits that apply to your account.
If you need photos, posts, or other information before you confirm deletion, Meta recommends downloading a copy beforehand. Once permanent deletion completes, the account is not a place to retrieve those files.
Deactivation is different from deletion
If you want a break without making a permanent request, temporary deactivation may fit better. Meta says you can choose to return to a deactivated account. Other people cannot view your Facebook profile while it is deactivated, but some information, such as earlier messages, can remain visible. Meta also says Messenger can remain usable during deactivation; your profile picture may appear in conversations and people may still find you there to send a message. Do not treat deactivation as the same privacy or messaging state as permanent deletion.
Before you make a decision
Review any apps that use Facebook Login and any information you want to keep. Meta notes that permanent deletion can affect access to connected apps and Meta Quest information. If you are still within the cancellation window, use Facebook’s own sign-in and Cancel deletion flow. If you are considering a new deletion request, review the consequences and your regional deadline in Meta’s current help before confirming it.
Frequently asked questions
Does logging in automatically cancel Facebook account deletion?
Meta’s cancellation instructions say to sign in during the available window and select “Cancel deletion.” Do not rely on logging in alone.
Is the cancellation window always 30 days?
Meta’s help page describes a 30-day window but notes that the number of days varies by region. Check the deadline shown for your account and act promptly.
Can a permanently deleted Facebook account be restored?
Meta says a permanently deleted account cannot be reactivated or its added information retrieved. A pending request may still be cancelled within the applicable window.
Can I still use Messenger after deactivating Facebook?
Meta says Messenger can remain available during temporary deactivation, and people may still find you there to message you. Permanent deletion ends Messenger access for that account.
