How to Refresh Facebook Feed on Phone or Desktop

Pull down on Facebook Feed or reload the browser page to request an update. Learn why a refresh may show the same posts and when to use Feeds for recent posts.

To refresh Facebook Feed in the mobile app, open the Feed and pull downward from near the top, then release. If your app version supports that gesture, Facebook will try to load the current Feed. On a computer or mobile browser, use the browser's reload control while viewing Facebook. Refreshing asks for updated content; it does not guarantee that different posts, new comments, or a particular friend's update will appear.

If your real goal is to see the newest posts rather than request another version of the ranked Home Feed, look for Facebook's Feeds area. Meta describes Feeds as a place to see recent posts from people, Pages, and groups you follow, while Home can include recommendations. Meta's Home and Feeds explanation makes that distinction. The exact tab location can change across app versions.

Refresh in the Facebook mobile app

First, make sure you are on a scrollable Feed rather than a post, photo, Story, Reel, or menu. Scroll to the top of the Feed. Place a finger on the list, drag it down a short distance, and release. Give the app a moment to load. If it shows a progress indicator, wait for that indicator to finish before repeating the gesture.

Pull-to-refresh is easiest to use from the top of the list. If the gesture only scrolls a post or opens another control, return to the main Feed and try there. Do not keep pulling rapidly when the network is slow. You can leave the app, check whether other pages load, and come back once the connection is stable. If your version presents a different refresh control, use the control shown in the app rather than an older screenshot.

A refresh does not reset your preferences, clear the account, or force an individual friend's post into Home. It is a request for the app to fetch or redraw what it currently chooses to show. The same posts may remain because there is no new eligible content, because ranking places them there, or because a connection failed. A matching screen after one refresh is not proof that the app is broken.

Refresh Facebook in a browser

If you are using facebook.com in a browser, open the Feed and select the browser's reload icon. You can also use the browser's normal reload command. Wait for the page to finish loading before deciding whether the view changed. A browser reload requests the page again, but it cannot make Facebook place a particular post at the top of Home.

If a single post's comments or reaction counts look stale, open that post directly and reload its page rather than refreshing Home repeatedly. A conversation can change while you are reading it, and the Feed card may not show every update at the exact moment it occurs. Check the post's current audience and whether it is still available to you if it disappears after a reload.

A browser with several Facebook tabs can show different states. If one tab appears stuck, check that you are signed in to the intended profile and viewing the correct tab. Refresh the tab where the problem appears; do not assume another open tab updates in lockstep. If the browser asks you to sign in again, use Facebook's official sign-in page and avoid entering credentials into a third-party “refresh” extension.

Why did the same posts return?

Refresh and chronological sorting are different actions. Meta says Home includes personalized recommendations, while Feeds was introduced to show more recent posts from friends, Favorites, Pages, and groups. Meta's Feed-control explanation also describes preferences such as Favorites and controls for what you want to see more or less of. Repeatedly pulling down on Home does not change it into a chronological list.

If you want recent posts from accounts you already follow, open Feeds if your current Facebook interface offers it. Look for filters such as Friends, Favorites, Groups, or Pages where available. The exact labels and order can differ across versions. A recent-post view still only shows content you are eligible to see; it is not a complete archive of every action made by every friend.

If you are looking for one person's update, you can visit the profile or Page you know, subject to its audience settings. If you are looking for a group post, open that group and use its available sorting options. These steps narrow the task. They do not override a private audience, a removed post, or a group you cannot access.

When the Feed will not load

Check whether your phone or computer can open another site or app. If nothing loads, address the connection first. If other services work but Facebook stays blank or shows an error, wait briefly and try again. A temporary service or account-specific issue cannot be diagnosed from a single frozen Feed screen.

In the mobile app, close and reopen Facebook, then check for an available app update from your device's official app store. Restart the device if the problem persists. These are general troubleshooting steps, not a promise that every blank Feed has the same cause. On a browser, reload once, then try a fresh tab or an up-to-date browser. Avoid clearing all browser data immediately: that can sign you out of unrelated services without proving why the Feed stalled.

If the app opens but one view repeatedly fails, note the exact message and whether the issue also appears in a browser or on another device you control. That comparison helps distinguish a local app problem from a view or account problem. Use Facebook's in-app problem-reporting option if the error continues. Do not share your password, authentication code, or account session with an outside “Facebook repair” site.

Questions people ask

Does refreshing show new posts every time?

No. A refresh requests an updated view. What you see afterward depends on available posts, your access, network state, and Facebook's current Feed selection. The previous article's promise of new posts after every refresh was unsupported.

Will refreshing make comments and likes current?

It can request updated information, but the displayed counts or comments may not change instantly. Open the specific post to check its current view. A refresh is not a guarantee of exact real-time totals.

How do I see the newest posts instead of Home recommendations?

Use Feeds and its available filters if your interface provides them. Meta introduced Feeds for recent posts from connections. See our guide to seeing recent Facebook posts for that separate task.

Does refreshing delete anything?

A normal Feed refresh or browser reload does not intentionally delete your posts, friends, or settings. If content disappears, check the account, audience, group, and specific post before assuming it was deleted.

Refresh once when you need an updated view, then choose the right place for your question: Home for Facebook's selected mix, Feeds for recent connected posts, or the particular profile, group, Page, or post you are trying to check.
