How to Stop Facebook Live Notifications on iPhone
Stop unwanted Facebook Live alerts on iPhone. Find the general Video setting or turn off live notifications from one Page, and check push, email and SMS separately.
If Facebook keeps alerting you when someone goes live, first decide how much you want to quiet. You can review Facebook’s general Video notification setting, or turn off Live notifications from a particular Page while leaving other alerts alone. If the interruption is an iPhone banner, an email, or a text message, check that delivery channel too. They are different kinds of notification, and changing one does not necessarily change the others.
You do not need to unfollow every Page just to review its Live alerts. Nor do you need to switch off every notification from the Facebook app to investigate one noisy category. Start with the narrowest setting that matches what you want, then test it the next time that Page or another source goes live. Facebook can change the labels and layout of its app, so use the setting names below as signposts instead of assuming every iPhone shows the same series of taps.
Choose the right setting for the alerts you receive
Ask what the alert names. If many unrelated Live broadcasts prompt notifications, look for Facebook’s general Video category under Notifications. If most alerts come from one Page, go to that Page’s Following options and look for Live video. Meta documents these as separate controls. Its instructions for the general category currently show the desktop site, so the exact path through the iPhone app may differ.
Also identify where the alert appears. A notice in Facebook’s own notifications area, an iPhone push alert, an email, and an SMS text are not the same delivery channel. A phone banner indicates a device push alert; an email arrives in your inbox; an SMS arrives through your messaging service. The presence of a Facebook notification in the app does not mean that the app had to be open when the event happened. Review the category and the available delivery options in your own account rather than assuming that all of these channels share one switch.
Reduce Facebook Live alerts across your account
Open Facebook’s settings while signed in and find Notifications. Within the list of topics, look for Video and open its notification choices. Meta’s current general Live-notification instructions point to this Video category. If your iPhone app uses another layout, search within its settings or open Facebook in a browser and use Meta’s Help page for the current desktop path. Do not assume that a gear icon is always in the same corner of the iPhone screen.
Review the options that Facebook actually shows you. Turn off or reduce the Live or video alerts you do not want, then leave unrelated notification topics as they are. Read the label before changing a broader Video control: depending on the options offered to your account, it may cover more than a single Page’s Live broadcasts. If Facebook presents separate Push, Email, or SMS choices for that topic, inspect each one that matches the alert you received. A channel that is absent from your screen should not be treated as an error or as a hidden step you must find.
This general route is the practical starting point when the alerts come from different Pages or people. It does not prove that every future Facebook notification will disappear. The change is about the notification options you selected, and Facebook may show other video or account alerts under different categories. If one Page remains noisy, check that Page’s own Live setting next.
Stop Live notifications from one Facebook Page
If you want to keep some Live alerts but silence one Page, search for and open that Page while signed in. Find its Following controls and look for Live video in the available options. Meta’s Page-specific Help describes choices including All notifications, Highlights, and Off. Choose Off for that Page’s Live video alerts if the choice appears in your account. This setting is scoped to the selected Page, so repeat the check for another Page only if its broadcasts also bother you.
The Page view in the iPhone app may arrange Following and its options differently from Meta’s desktop instructions. If you cannot see Live video, check that you opened the intended Page and that the follow options are available to your account. You can also consult Meta’s current Help instructions in a browser. Avoid changing a Page’s broader follow or visibility settings unless that is what you intend. The goal here is to manage Live notifications from that Page, not to make a claim about whether its videos can still appear elsewhere in Facebook.
Meta also notes a separate route while watching a live video or a replay: a Follow and Notifications choice may let you request future Live alerts from that source. If alerts from one source began after you used such a control, revisit its notification choice rather than assuming that your iPhone has malfunctioned.
Understand Facebook, push, email and SMS alerts
In-app Facebook notifications are items you see in Facebook’s own notification area. The old advice that these can appear only when you are actively browsing is unreliable. Check the in-app category you actually receive; do not equate it with the iPhone banner setting.
Push notifications are the alerts Facebook can send to your iPhone outside the app. If you turn off Facebook’s notification permission on the phone, you are using a broad device control, not a Page-specific Live switch. That can silence wanted Facebook banners as well as unwanted ones. Use Facebook’s topic or Page settings first if you still want push notices for messages, security, or other activity. Device controls and Facebook’s own preferences may need separate checks, and this article does not assume one exact iOS Settings path for every device version.
Email notifications arrive in your email inbox. If the message is about Live video, inspect the email delivery option for the relevant Facebook notification topic if your account offers one. A change to iPhone push permission does not itself manage your inbox. Also verify the sender before following links in an unexpected email; do not use a suspicious message as your route into account settings.
SMS notifications are text messages sent to a phone number. Meta documents SMS as a separate choice within Facebook’s notification settings, with choices that can vary by notification topic. If you are receiving Live-related texts, inspect the relevant SMS option shown in your account. Do not call email or SMS “push notifications”: that wording makes it harder to find the correct control.
If Live alerts keep appearing
Start with one recent example. Was it a Facebook notification, a device banner, an email, or an SMS? Did it come from the Page you changed, or from a different Page or person? If you used a Page-specific Off choice, another source can still have its own alert setting. If you changed only an iPhone push permission, email or SMS preferences may still need attention. If you changed a general Video setting, recheck its available delivery choices and any source-specific setting you previously enabled.
You can revisit the relevant setting after the next Live broadcast to see whether it addressed the unwanted channel. Account interfaces can vary, and an old banner or email is not evidence that a new setting failed. If the relevant option is missing entirely, use Meta’s current Live notification Help and follow the controls shown for your signed-in account. Avoid resetting all of your Facebook notifications to fix one category unless you are comfortable losing the other alerts too.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn off Facebook Live notifications from just one Page?
Yes, when the Page-specific option is available to your account. Meta’s current instructions point to the Page’s Following options, then Live video, where Off stops Live notifications from that Page. Other Pages have their own settings.
Is turning off push notifications the same as turning off Live notifications?
No. A push setting concerns an alert sent to your device. Facebook also has topic and Page-specific choices, and may offer email or SMS delivery for some topics. Choose the narrowest available control that matches the notification you receive.
Will changing the Video setting remove emails and texts too?
Check the delivery choices your account presents. Do not assume a push choice also changes email or SMS. Meta describes SMS as its own notification setting. If you receive alerts through more than one channel, review each relevant channel.
Why can I still see a Facebook notification after stopping iPhone banners?
The notification in Facebook and the banner sent to your iPhone are different surfaces. A device permission may prevent an external banner without changing what Facebook lists inside the app. Check Facebook’s notification topic and the Page’s Live setting if the in-app item is the one you want to reduce.
What if the iPhone menus do not match these names?
Use Notifications, Video, and the Page’s Following or Live video options as search terms inside the current interface. Meta’s public Live Help currently gives desktop steps, and app layouts can differ. Use the labels shown in your own signed-in account; there is no need to guess through a fixed sequence of icons.
