Why Did TikTok Remove the Sound From My Video?
Check TikTok’s reason for a muted video, replace the sound when available, and understand when a copyright notice may require an appeal or rights evidence.
A muted TikTok video does not by itself tell you which rule was involved. TikTok says it may remove a sound for copyright restrictions, a Community Guidelines violation, or both. It also says you may not receive a notification if you did not add the original sound. Check the video details before assuming the reason.
See why the sound was removed
Open the muted video in the TikTok app and tap View details at the bottom. TikTok’s sound-removal help says this view identifies whether the sound was removed because of a copyright claim, a Community Guidelines violation, or both. Save the details if you need to review the decision later.
Replace the sound when the option appears
From View details, tap Change sound, choose another sound, and adjust its trim or volume if needed. TikTok says to tap Post to finish. Select music appropriate for the account and the post. For content promoting a brand, product, or service, TikTok recommends the Commercial Music Library, because its general music licenses do not cover commercial use in content.
What if the copyright decision is wrong?
A muted sound and a removed post are different outcomes. If TikTok removes a post for copyright infringement, its copyright help describes a notice and an appeal route. Use that route if you have permission, own the relevant rights, or have another valid basis; provide evidence rather than relying only on the fact that others used the same sound. TikTok says copyright removals can result in account strikes, so do not assume that replacing audio erases a separate strike.
A sound’s earlier availability in the app is not proof that every later use remains allowed. Rights, account type, region, and the sound itself can affect what is available.
